Florence history, with all the political intrigues, the conspiracies, the rivalries between great artists is certainly a source of inspiration for many novelists. There are many novels taking place in Florence, and today I’m going to pick the best ones for you. One genre is certainly the fictional history, as I mentioned before, but Florence has also been a source of inspiration for romantic novels: so many people, from England first, and then from the United States, got in love with Florence and Tuscany and decided to prolonge their trip, when not to buy a house and live here.
Some of these novels became films, and some films generated a novel. One thing is for sure: if you have been in Florence, you know it’s a magic place, and reading a novel taking place in Florence will make you feel the emotions you had while visiting this place. If you have not been in Florence, probably a book will push you to finally take this trip and be amazed at the beauty of Florence and Tuscany. Here you can find more books about Florence.
I tried to pick up the best novels taking place in Florence, splitting them by genre. Enjoy!

You missed one of my favourites, a slightly fictionalised, historical novel, with romance, eroticism, and romance, with an added bonus of art tour! http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-1-56947-006-0 Sixteen Pleasures by Robert Hellenga. The plot includes “Mud Angels” and techniques of book and art restoration after the 1966 flood of the Arno.

Another novel that takes place in Florence and Rome is The Agony and the Ecstacy by Irving Stone about Michaelangelo. This novel and the history it covers will definitely enhance your visit to Italy, especially Florence. I plan another visit this year and am reading it for the third time!
