In a city that lives on tourism, you will always find a lot of events. Attending an event should be on your list of things to do in Florence Italy. That’s a way to “live” Florence like a local, attending concerts, temporary exhibitions, markets and religious celebrations. I suggest you get your copy of The Florentine, a monthly English magazine freely distributed in bookshops and hotel concierges. Among other things, they always have an up to date list of events in Florence.
I’m sorry to say that we don’t have great sports events in Florence, apart for football/soccer team playing in Serie A.
The “viola” (purple jerseys) are loved by locals, although they rarely win something. The only two Italian championships date back to 1956 and 1969 and there have been no important international trophies in the recent history of Fiorentina, although they played some important finals. That said, lately the team can compete with the best in Italy. If you had enough of art and history and are wondering what to do in Florence, attending a match is something you should consider if you are a fan of sports. Ticket prices vary based on which game you choose, but do not opt for the cheapest places, where the hooligans go. Opt for the tribune, the only seats covered by a roof in our stadium. And don’t root for the other team!
